Hey there everyone!! Well, it’s getting closer. We are just one week away from the kick off to the shopping season for the holidays. Although it’s quickly approaching, you still have some time to plan accordingly and to relax before things get hectic. I have a few ideas on how you can do just that, so let’s see what’s going on and get started!

Now don’t feel rushed, but this year, holiday activities are getting started a little early. Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo kicks off this week. Running until January 1st, the zoo will be filled with amazing light displays with a few animals still roaming around. Enjoy all the fun for an admission of free to $14.99 and visit www.columbuszoo.org for a schedule of special events. Also kicking off this weekend will be the Scioto Mile Holiday Lights. This free holiday display will light up downtown all the through January so make some time to catch this delightful scene. The Short North will also begin the holiday season early with their special event, Deck the District Tree Lighting. This Friday from 4 – 8 p.m., Poplar Park will be filled great holiday activities such as a performance from the Sweet Adelines, photo opportunities with Santa, and free hot chocolate. The tree lighting ceremony kicks off at 6:30 p.m. so make sure the little ones have a warm cup of cocoa to compliment.

One of the best holiday displays to check out this season, is the one put on by the Easton Towne Center. This Friday it all begins with the Holiday Lighting Ceremony. Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. as the Christmas tree is illuminated for the season. Santa will be on hand along with several surprises. The shopping center will also begin horse carriage rides and photos with Santa for the season this weekend.

One last special light display to mention will be the Ohio Chinese Lantern Festival. This spectacular light display will take you through a wonderland of Chinese tradition and culture that you’ll remember forever. Until January 7th, you can experience this display for an admission of $15. Visit www.ohiolanternfestival.com for dates and times.

The holiday season is a great time to see a live performance. This weekend take the family to see CATCO is Kids presenting The Music Man Kids. This classic will be shown this Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Shedd Theatre. Tickets will be $5 and can be purchased here. Another show to check out this weekend will be the Underwater Bubble Show at the Lincoln Theatre beginning at 2 p.m. this Saturday. Admission will be $27 and tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com.

As I mentioned before, you should really take some time to relax and enjoy yourselves before the holiday season really kicks in. Meet up with some friends at Brunch, Brunch, Baby this Sunday at Bleu & Fig. For an admission of $25, enjoy an all you can eat brunch buffet with unlimited drinks such as juices, coffee, lemonade, and a Bloody Mary Station. Feel free to bring your own Champagne and Vodka to spice it up. Send an email to info@bleuandfig.com for tickets. Don’t forget, Black restaurant week continues this weekend. Get ready to kick of your weekend with the best party in the city, HERE FRIDAYS at Copious. This week will feature a Harlem Nights them so be sure to come dressed to the nines. It all kicks off at 9 p.m. and you can click here to RSVP.

Just because some holiday activities are starting early, doesn’t mean you have to do the same. Take your time, relax, and enjoy the season with family and friends. There’s plenty of time to get things together for your holiday celebrations, so don’t feel pressure to get caught up in the frenzy. Come back each week and I’ll have some great events to help with those celebrations and maybe take a break from everything. Until then, be safe and take care. Deuces!!
